Music Under Glass: Viennese Café with Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago featuring Ilya Kaler

Garfield Park Conservatory’s second Music Under Glass concert season will open with an extraordinary experience for our guests: a Viennese Café-style concert with musical performances by the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago featuring world-renowned violinist Ilya Kaler. The audience will be treated to musical selections of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Fritz Kreisler, Franz Lehar, Anton Bruckner, Franz Joseph Haydn, Gustav Mahler, Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss in the Horticulture Hall. The Hall opens into the spectacular outdoor Monet garden, alive with the beautiful plants and flowers of early autumn.

 

Horticulture Hall Doors open at: 10:15am (Conservatory opens to the public at 9am)

Music performance: 11:00am-1:30pm

Guests have the option of purchasing a seated or standing ticket.  In keeping with the Viennese tradition, the Hall and garden will allow guests to move about to enjoy conversation with friends and traditional Viennese coffee, wine and pastries.

Music Under Glass is a fundraising effort that engages classical music lovers in an idyllic setting to raise funds for the Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance’s educational and cultural programs and classes.  The Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance inspires, educates and provokes exploration through innovative programs and experiences in one of the nation’s largest and finest historic conservatories.

The Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago was founded in 2005. The vision of OSC is to offer audiences and musicians exposure to a broad classical repertoire, performed at the highest level.

 

minaMina Zikri, is the Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director. He is a talented violinist, teacher, and conductor who holds advanced degrees in violin performance. He has been a member of many prestigious orchestras over the years and is currently a faculty member of the Depaul University Community Music Division. His conducting credits extend from Germany to Egypt and the American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival.

 

 

illyaIlya Kaler, born into a family of orchestral musicians, showed talent from an early age.  At the Central Music School for Especially Gifted Children of the Moscow Conservatory, he studied under Zinaida Gilels, Leonid Kogan, and Victor Treriakov, earning both master’s and doctoral degrees and graduating with the Gold Medal Award.  In recent years, Mr. Kaler has performed with the Detroit, Baltimore, Lansing, and Seattle symphony orchestras, toured Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, England, Venezuela, and Japan and performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  Kaler has been a professor of violin at the Eastman School of Music and the Indiana University School of Music, and he is currently a professor of violin at the DePaul University School of Music in Chicago.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Interested children ages 13 and up must be accompanied by an adult.

 

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

We have FREE parking in the Visitor’s Parking Lot just South of the Conservatory entrance, as well as Bike Corrals and a Divvy bike station in front of the building.  You can also take the Green Line to the Conservatory Stop. You won’t  miss us, we’re the huge glass building just North of Lake St. on the West side of the street.

 

What is the refund policy?

All tickets sales are final for this fundraiser.  Tickets are non-refundable.
